In a recent article in Politico, Dr. Prabhjot Singh highlights the link between housing and health. there’s a strong relationship between safe and affordable housing and improved health, and for some low-income patients paying the rent is more important than buying their medications. For Dr. Singh, asking the question “where do you live?” is the most important question he can ask to his patients. If his patients’ housing situation is not stable, health is a secondary concern. According to the author, now that HUD and HHS have physicians in charge of both agencies, they can address this linkage and improve the health of very low-income individuals.
