The Relationship Between Housing and Asthma among School Age Children

A report from the Urban Institute shows that households that receive HUD-assistance have higher exposure to indoor asthma triggers, such as tobacco smoke, mold, and pests. As a result, they are more likely to have a child with asthma. Findings from the American Housing Survey also show that presence of tobacco smoke and mold are associated with more asthma-related ER and urgent care visits.
