Futures Without Violence: Assessing for IPV in the Primary Care Setting
Intimate partner violence (IPV) serves as a continuing threat in low-income and disadvantaged communities. Although IPV screenings are becoming more common in primary care settings, health care providers may need additional tools to properly assess and better understand those at risk for IPV. Join the National Center for Health in Public Housing and Futures Without Violence for an informative session on the faces of IPV, ways to assess risk of IPV among patients, and tools such as resources and referral partners that can be used to assist those suffering from violence.
Preparing for the Psychological Impacts of a Disaster
The National Center for Health in Public Housing is pleased to present an emergency preparedness webinar training on the psychological impact of disaster. The overall goal of this training is to offer health centers serving residents of public housing the tools they need to address the psychological reactions of staff, patients, and the community to an emergency. This session is based on “Preparing Hospitals and Clinics for the Psychological Consequences of a Terrorist Incident or other Public Health Emergency”, a training developed by LA County EMS in collaboration with the Rand Corporation.
Smoke-free Housing: A Guide to Effective Design and Implementation Strategies
This webinar will serve as a continuation of the tobacco cessation series. Residents of low-income communities face issues surrounding tobacco use and increased exposures to substances such as tobacco. Housing authorities under the direction of the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development have decided to promote better health among these low-income communities. In order to achieve better health, housing authorities are transitioning to smoke-free housing. This session will outline the current initiative as well as provide strategies and techniques to effectively prepare residents and community members for healthier housing. One particular model in Providence, Rhode Island will demonstrate the role health centers play in providing services and support to smoke-free housing efforts.
The “Why” “Who” “When” and “How” of nPEP and PrEP in a Community Health Center
The National Center for Health in Public Housing is pleased to present an HIV webinar on the use of HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Non-Occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP). The overall goal of this training is to offer health centers serving residents of public housing the tools they need to apply national guidelines for the use of nPEP and PrEP, understand the evaluation and monitoring required for prescribing nPEP and PrPEP, and the challenges to apply the HIV guidelines.
Understanding the Value of Integrating Pharmacy Services To Improve Health Outcomes and Patient Safety
Due to the vulnerable nature of the health center patient base, health professionals are interested in integrating more clinical and ancillary services into primary are. Health centers are becoming representative models of comprehensive quality care facilities. Although integrating pharmacy services into health center models is ideal, there are barriers to successful integration. Barriers, challenges, and strategies to successful pharmacy services integration will be addressed during the webinar through a discuss on the Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services Collaboration.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), health center program grantees employ approximately 157,000 staff throughout the country. PHPCs offer an opportunity for medical students and public housing residents to participate in community-based health care initiatives, networks, and cooperative agreements. Medical students and public housing residents also have the opportunity to develop affiliations with other health care entities for the purpose of continued personal, professional and/or academic growth and development.
