Health centers continue to stand at the forefront of preventing and managing infectious diseases, from childhood illnesses like measles and mumps to emerging threats such as chikungunya, West Nile virus, and antibiotic resistance. Addressing the health and well-being of residents in public housing, HUD-assisted communities, and among the unhoused has required targeted interventions, enhanced surveillance, and collaborative efforts between healthcare providers and housing authorities. In a recent session hosted by the National Center for Health in Public Housing (NCHPH), experts came together to share best practices for infectious disease prevention. The discussion covered strategies to strengthen disease surveillance systems, deliver effective preventive services, and address health-related social needs that contribute to the spread of disease. A central focus of the session was the value of cross-sector collaboration in improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations. Featured speakers included Dr. Kevin Lombardi, Director of Research at NCHPH; Fide S. Pineda Sandoval, Training and Technical Assistance Manager at NCHPH; and Olajumoke Oladipo, Health Communications and Research Analyst at NCHPH.
